About

Sarah McNaughton has found art can be a place of refuge and freedom since being very small. She has always been expressive with an energy burning brightly that is translated on to a canvas, be it fabric, paper, wood, ceramics even her own skin…

A life rich and varied in experiences and influences, growing up in urban environment in Islington, North london in the 80’s in N19, at a time the adults she knew navigate their lives through the pubs and clubs and brought the party home sometimes and children were free to roam and run about. With much of her family in west Belfast she travelled there many a holiday easter and Christmas spent, that distinctive smell of turf burning in the open fires, the 5o+ cousins, music and joy. Later exploring all the coast leading to the giants causeway. As an adult exploring all over Ireland and its beautiful coast. As a teenager spending holidays on the Norfolk west coast.

Travel to beautiful places hitch hiking, sailing and cycling all over Norway and sleeping in the Sahara seeing the stars falling from the sky above on the back of a camel in Morocco, road trips along the coast of Albania, all over the UK, Scotland and Wales.

Using art to process and explore introspectively, externally and the relationship between everything. Art is an obsession more than a passion, she is always looking and noticing details, light, shadows, contrasts, people and her own sensory experience of it all.

Mark making and creating brings her to a trance like state in flow…tapping into the universal, creating her intuitive works from both her mind and from real life, memories, present and future. Often working without a conscious plan, making both stunning and intriguing works.

She works in varied mediums and substrates, asking questions, busy experimenting and developing her skills through oil, acrylic and inks, watercolour, painting being her passions, although she has worked in 3D using clay,

It is the Artist job to enable us to see the magic of our world and lift our spirits and open our hearts…
